An obituary is a death notice a publication runs for a family. It has its own form because it has its own shape: the person's name, when they were born and when they died, who survives them, and where the service will be. Obituaries are community content — always free for anyone to read.

The path

Open the obituary form. The title is the full name of the person who died. The description is the remembrance — where they grew up, what they did, who they loved, what they will be remembered for. Keep it in the family's words.

Below that are the fields the family gave you:

  • Date of Birth and Date of Death
  • Survived By — spouse, children, grandchildren, siblings, as the family wants it printed
  • Service Date, Service Time, and Service Location

Only the date of death is required. A family often does not have every detail, and an obituary should never wait on one.

A photo is optional. Plenty of families have no portrait they want printed, so the form will publish without one.

What we do not do

We do not charge families to post an obituary, and we do not take a cut. If your publication charges for obituaries, that arrangement is between you and the family today — it is not something the platform handles.
